Today, May 8, DL E&C Co., Ltd announced that they have completed the installation of the last and 30th caisson for Ulleung Airport.
The caissons were produced in Yeongil Bay, Pohang and then transported by sea to the intended construction site. To move the caisson to the floating dock, our hydraulic skidding jacks IP-CCV were used (lifting capacity of 250 tons/each).
Ulleungdo Airport is the first airport in Korea to be built on an island without a land road. The caissons are 28 meters high, 32 meters wide and 38 meters long. The maximum weight is 16,400 tons, which is equivalent to the weight of 10,000 medium-sized cars.
