Sustainability

During the Paris climate conference in 2015, the member states of the UN General Assembly adopted the historic resolution Agenda 2030 for sustainable development. The resolution contains 17 goals and 169 targets that private companies can use to frame their sustainability work in the coming years. Bygging-Uddemann works actively and supports the ambitions to achieve the goals in our business and in our value chain.

How we work with SDG

Bygging-Uddemann should be the partner of choice for developing sustainable infrastructure and construction worldwide. Our ambition is to contribute to all strategic development goals in all our activities, but focus on the goals that are most relevant to our business and where we have the greatest possibility to make a difference. In our action plan for the next few years, we have selected five goals, two primary and three secondary, which are close to our business and where we believe we can make the greatest effort. We are constantly redefining how our different market areas can contribute to achieving the global ambitions for each of these goals in practice.

Primary Goal #1

GOAL 9 – INDUSTRY, INNOVATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE

By 2030, Bygging-Uddemann will:

9.1 Develop quality, reliable, sustainable and resilient infrastructure, including regional and transborder infrastructure, to support economic development and human well-being, with a focus on affordable and equitable access for all.

9.2 Promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and, by 2030, significantly raise industry’s share of employment and gross domestic product, in line with national circumstances, and double its share in least developed countries.

9.4 Upgrade infrastructure and retrofit industries to make them sustainable, with increased resource-use efficiency and greater adoption of clean and environmentally sound technologies and industrial processes, with all countries taking action in accordance with their respective capabilities.

9.A Facilitate sustainable and resilient infrastructure development in developing countries through enhanced financial, technological and technical support to African countries, least developed countries, landlocked developing countries and small island developing States.

Primary Goal #2

GOAL 12 – RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION & PRODUCTION

By 2030, Bygging-Uddemann will:

12.2 Achieve the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources.

12.4 Achieve the environmentally sound management of chemicals and all wastes throughout their life cycle, in accordance with agreed international frameworks, and significantly reduce their release to air, water and soil in order to minimize their adverse impacts on human health and the environment.

12.5 Substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse.

Secondary Goal #1

GOAL 4 – QUALITY EDUCATION

By 2030, Bygging-Uddemann will:

4.4 Substantially increase the number of youth and adults who have relevant skills, including technical and vocational skills, for employment, decent jobs and entrepreneurship.

Secondary Goal #2

GOAL 11 – SUSTAINABLE CITIES

By 2030, Bygging-Uddemann will:

11.C Support least developed countries, including through financial and technical assistance, in building sustainable and resilient buildings utilizing local materials.

Secondary Goal #3

GOAL 17 – PARTNERSHIP FOR THE GOALS

By 2030, Bygging-Uddemann will:

17.1 Strengthen domestic resource mobilization, including through international support to developing countries, to improve domestic capacity for tax and other revenue collection.

Strategy and action plan for the next few years

The action plan involves a gradual transformation of the company into an even more modern and sustainable player in the construction market, both as an employer and as part of the global system. In this action plan, we describe a number of key measures for sustainable development that are expected to yield results and effects in the coming years. The key to a successful implementation of the agenda is that both employees and partners have a broad participation in the changeover.

Action plan to achieve Primary Goal #1

Bygging-Uddemann will achieve the goal by:

  • Continue to develop solutions to facilitate reliable, sustainable and resilient infrastructure for a global market with a focus on security and high levels of local content to the right quality.
  • Contribute to the development of the construction industry in local markets by encouraging stakeholders to invest in local businesses and labor.
  • Continue to focus on resource efficiency and environmentally friendly technology for all markets.
  • Facilitate sustainable and resilient infrastructure development by bringing technology to developing markets.

Action plan to achieve Primary Goal #2

Bygging-Uddemann will achieve the goal by:

  • Integrate sustainability at all levels of management and use natural resources efficiently.
  • Minimize the environmental impact of chemicals and waste used in the company’s operations.
  • Reduce waste production through a more accurate assessment of material needed.

Action plan to achieve Secondary Goal #1

Bygging-Uddemann will achieve the goal by:

  • Actively contribute to increase the professional skills for employment by encouraging high level of  local content.

Action Plan to achieve Secondary Goal #2

Bygging-Uddemann will achieve the goal by:

  • Support less developed countries to achieve sustainable and resilient infrastructure by utilizing local materials as much as possible.

Action Plan to achieve Secondary Goal #3

Bygging-Uddemann will achieve the goal by:

  • Support less developed countries to achieve sustainable and resilient infrastructure by utilizing local production facilities and high level of local content for workforce.
